OKOK there have been a few shows that haven’t been documented, I’m a slacker. I wish I was more of a slacker even. There have been sorely few true slack days in this season of should-be lazy river days. The river days of youth. These are the days of even more airports. I clocked 40 hours spent in air travel transit during that last week of Europe to North America and Around. Took a teacher training with the incredible Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane who are based in the jungle on Maui. Truly special teachers, this time visiting my dear Ryan Leier’s studio One Yoga in Saskatoon, SK. There was MUCH learning in a very compressed few days.
Then it was time for the east coast of Canada. AF played a much belated show in Halifax, the last time we played there was the POP Explosion in 2004. A show that is burned in all our minds…. so it felt great to be back. We then snuck a secret show after Owen Pallett at SappyFest. The most dear festival ever. Tiny and amazing and cozy. The third day of this weekend jaunt brought us to Moncton and U2’s gargantuan space stage. Really fun being up there actually, all crammed in a line in front of their gear. A lot of Canadians in a field. U2 has some pretty good moves too…..
After that weekend I hit the wall of tired. Home has become more of an idea these days. Sometimes in life you just have to say yes to a lot of things, put yourself in many places and find moments of “home” wherever you can. So I found myself rocking out with Bell Orchestre, the mythical beast that sleeps. That was damn nice. And New York City, where myself and some other lovely Montreal yoga people are building Moksha Yoga NYC. Oh you know, building a giant yoga studio in Manhattan, no big deal. HAAAAH! It’s going to be beautiful. If you’re reading this and you live in NYC, well, welcome, please visit soon.
And THEN, this catch up is almost done, we played Outside Lands in SF. Which was a huge honour. This was one of those places, a music festival of iconic proportions, a gorgeous freezing august day in Golden Gate Park. The festival is so green and clean you can actually sit your ass on the ground and eat your locally grown vegan taco. On the last day of the weekend! No gross! The show was alright too…..
And bounce bounce, home and back to Europe we are. I crammed another yoga intensive right before tour- this time in Iceland. And after hearing so much about this place and never having been, well, it’s truly amazing. A power spot, full of gorgeous hot water and eerie landscapes. And elfin people with beautiful eyes. This was another Ryan Leier concoction. His lectures and classes, raw food by Aaron Ash, and live music by me. Kind of a perfect bridge of things. Definitely set things up well to be on tour again. Mind and body in check, slowed down enough to feel things, like how lucky we are to be doing this thing- playing music for thousands of lovely people night after night. I turned 32 in Copenhagen and we rocked out well that night. It was one of the fun-est, sweaty-est show times of a while.
I prescribe anyone on tour, or off actually, to try 15 minutes of breathing (pranayama) a day. Look into it. Whenever I don’t do it, my world gets a little rougher. These days are back in the flow- my practice everyday means postures for sure, and breathing. Whenever there’s time. And it just means that the rest of your time in the day feels more complete.
So tonight is Amsterdam, in a big beer arena. And sometime in the middle of the night we cross the channel into UK town.
Thank-you for being patient with my slacker summer no blog times.
Sarah.
